ECOWAS Advances Solar Thermal Quality Infrastructure Framework, Praia, Cabo Verde

“The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE), in partnership with UNIDO, held a three-day consultation from 30 July to 1 August 2025 to advance the ECOWAS Solar Thermal Quality Infrastructure Framework. Coinciding with ECREEE’s 15th anniversary, the event gathered regional experts, ECOWAS Commission representatives, and partners to discuss the framework’s scope, certification scheme, clustering mechanism, and roadmap for implementation. The framework aims to harmonize standards, testing, and certification to ensure high-quality solar thermal products, boost local manufacturing, and strengthen consumer trust. ECREEE underscored that the adoption of the framework represents a foundational milestone toward establishing a fully operational regional certification system for solar thermal technologies that will enhance quality assurance and foster market confidence. UNIDO reiterated its commitment to supporting ECOWAS member states in strengthening institutional capacities and advancing renewable energy technologies, particularly solar thermal, through the STAR-C project.”
